Town of Creston and FortisBC Partner to Upgrade Cavell Street Electrical Equipment

Creston, BC - January 15, 2009 - The Town of Creston has accepted a grant of $15,000 from FortisBC to celebrate the completion of the Cavell Street electrical equipment upgrade project.

"The Town of Creston is in the completion stages of Phase I of the Cavell Street upgrade project and one of the major costs of Phase I was relocating power poles. FortisBC made this project possible with a generous grant of $15,000 through its Aesthetic Upgrade Program. Their community support is sincerely appreciated," said Creston Mayor Ron Toyota.

The Cavell Street project involved widening the street between 7th and 10th Avenue downtown, and moving power poles to allow the widening of the street and the installation of a sidewalk for pedestrian safety. New, higher poles were installed, resulting in a much cleaner look along the street.

The redevelopment of Cavell Street was identified as a top priority for the Town in 2008.

“This project goes a long way towards increasing safety for both pedestrians and drivers. FortisBC is pleased to assist municipalities with electrical infrastructure improvements and we believe strongly in being active partners with the communities we serve,” said Doyle Sam, vice president of Engineering and Operations, FortisBC.
