Liquefied natural gas
We're rethinking the future of energy by supporting the growing use of liquefied natural gas (LNG). LNG is made from the same natural gas we use every day in our homes. When natural gas is cooled to -162 °C it liquefies and becomes much more condensed—roughly the equivalent of shrinking a beach ball to the size of a ping pong ball. In liquid form, LNG can be safely and efficiently stored and transported inside a double-walled container similar to a thermos. This allows both for use as a transportation fuel or shipment to countries overseas.
Details on LNG cost, charges and tariffs can be found on Rate Schedule 46.
FortisBC LNG
Using LNG as a lower-carbon marine fuel—when compared with petroleum-based marine fuels—can reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Marine fuelling
Fuelling ships with LNG is an important step in reducing emissions and underwater noise.
LNG projects and facilities
We own and operate two LNG facilities on the Canadian West Coast—the Mt. Hayes facility on Vancouver Island and the Tilbury LNG facility in Delta. Learn more about our LNG facilities.
Low-carbon transportation
Learn about reducing costs and emissions by using LNG or compressed natural gas as fuel for transportation in fleet, heavy-duty and commercial vehicles.
