Working in your neighbourhood

We regularly maintain our infrastructure to ensure the safe and reliable delivery of energy to our customers. This includes upgrading electricity and natural gas lines – which may require crews to work along roads – as well as managing vegetation near our facilities and rights of way.

We appreciate your patience and co-operation as we try to minimize disruptions and complete the work in your neighbourhood as quickly and safely as possible.

Note: project details and dates are subject to change. Check your local traffic report for updates on roadwork in your area.

Lakeshore Road electricity system upgrades

Project details: To ensure our electricity system continues to operate safely and reliably, we’re upgrading electricity infrastructure along Lakeshore Road, from Truswell to Swordy Road, in Kelowna.

These upgrades are being done in response to increased demand for electricity in the area and to enhance the overall systems capacity.

We ask the public to use caution around the construction site and equipment during and after work hours. Nearby residents may experience some construction noise and increased traffic in the area. Traffic guards and flaggers will be on site to direct traffic through the area as smoothly as possible.

Temporary power outages are anticipated during the work as the upgrades are carried out. Customers are encouraged to visit our outage map for the most up to date information on planned outages in the area.

We appreciate the public’s patience as our crews work to complete this work safely and as quickly as possible.

Maintenance work at Hartland landfill station

Project details: We’re getting close to final commissioning of our station and its connection to the Hartland landfill RNG facility. Crews will be purging a very small volume of gas from the line to prepare the facility for commissioning. The procedure is estimated to take place within the first two weeks of April, between the hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.

While this work is taking place, nearby homes and business will mostly likely smell the distinctive rotten egg odour of natural gas. If you feel there is a gas related emergency or smell gas unrelated to our work at the Hartland landfill site, please go outside and call the FortisBC Emergency Line at 1-800-663-9911 (24 hours) or 911.

We recognize that this work may be inconvenient to some members of the community, and we appreciate everyone’s patience while we work to complete the work as safely and quickly as possible.
