Working in your neighbourhood
We regularly maintain our infrastructure to ensure the safe and reliable delivery of energy to our customers. This includes upgrading electricity and natural gas lines – which may require crews to work along roads – as well as managing vegetation near our facilities and rights of way.
We appreciate your patience and co-operation as we try to minimize disruptions and complete the work in your neighbourhood as quickly and safely as possible.
Note: project details and dates are subject to change. Check your local traffic report for updates on roadwork in your area.
Nanaimo
White Rapids Road gas line upgrade
Project details: To make sure our gas system continues to operate safely and reliably, FortisBC is performing an upgrade to a section of gas transmission pipe in the Nanaimo area.
FortisBC crews are planning to replace about 70 metres of transmission pipe on Evans/Schon roads near the intersection of White Rapids Road, Nanaimo. The upgrade of the gas line is necessary to meet the requirements of a growing nearby Nanaimo subdivision, with the completed work helping allow the continued reliable delivery of gas to residents and businesses in the area.
On August 25 and 26, some flaring and venting will take place to remove gas from the replaced transmission line safely and as quickly as possible. Flaring is a standard, carefully controlled procedure used to safely remove gas from pipelines.
We appreciate the public’s patience as our crews work to complete this project safely and as quickly as possible.

Hedley, Princeton and Keremeos
Transmission line upgrades
Project details: To continue to provide reliable and resilient electricity service to our customers, crews are upgrading the transmission line serving Princeton, Hedley and Keremeos. Crews will be adding additional safety protections to the power poles that support the transmission line.
Public and employee safety is our top priority. We have carefully planned this upgrade so we can complete the work safely and with as few disruptions to the public as possible.
Construction will take place from September 3 until October 10 from Hedley to Princeton, including along Old Hedley Road and Highway 3 from Hedley to Wolf Creek Forest Service Road. Work will continue from October 14 until November 3 from Hedley to Keremeos. These dates are subject to change.
There will be some impact on local residents with some noise during the daytime and traffic on local roads may be affected at times during this work.
Flaggers will be on site to direct traffic through the area as smoothly as possible. We encourage drivers to allow for extra time when travelling through the area.
In some cases, crews will need to access private property in order to reach the transmission line structures. We are asking property owners for their patience and cooperation during this work if crews need to access their property so this work can be completed safely.
We recognize that this construction may affect some members of the community, and we appreciate everyone’s patience while we complete the work safely and as quickly as possible.
