Dual fuel heating system rebate
As of May 1, 2025, the dual fuel heating system rebate amount has changed to $5,000. To apply for the $10,000 rebate, you must meet the following deadlines:
For installations completed on or before April 30, 2025:
- Your invoice must be dated on or before April 30, 2025.
- The submitted date of the mobile app commissioning sheet must be on or before April 30, 2025.
For installations completed between May 1 and May 31, 2025:
- You must provide a quote dated on or before April 30, 2025.
- You must provide proof of a paid deposit on or before April 30, 2025.1
- The submitted date of the mobile app commissioning sheet and the invoice date must be on or before May 31, 2025.
- The rebate application must be submitted within six months of the invoice date.
For installations completed after May 31, 2025:

Program eligibility
- The home must have a residential FortisBC natural gas or propane account.2
- If the registered owner of the property where upgrades were made is not the utility account holder (e.g. landlord/tenant) the owner must have the account holder complete the Utility Account Holder Consent form.
- The home must be a year-round primary residence at least 12 months old and be either a single-family, duplex, triplex, row home, townhouse or mobile home on a permanent foundation. New construction, additions and garage upgrades are not eligible.
- Applications must be submitted within six months of the paid invoice date.
- Rebates cannot exceed the paid cost on the invoice.
- Invoices must be dated as per the applicable deadlines, noted above.
- It must be replacing an existing gas furnace that serves as the primary3 space heating system for the home, and is at least 10 years old. Replacement of existing dual fuel system is not eligible.
- It must be a new central ducted air source heat pump integrated with a new compatible high-efficiency gas furnace.
- It must be installed by a Technical Safety BC licensed gas contractor who is a member in good standing of the Home Performance Contractor Network.
- The heat pump must be listed as an eligible system on the rebate eligible product list. Qualifying systems must have an AHRI certified reference number that references the outdoor unit and the indoor unit(s) of the heat pump, and the furnace model number.
- It must have the thermostat, outdoor temperature switch-over control or equipment control board set to the following region-specific temperatures for the duration of the product lifetime:
- Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island regions: 5 °C or lower
- Southern Interior and northern B.C. regions: 2 °C or lower
- It must undergo commissioning to ensure the system is installed and operating according to best practice.
- It must be sized to ensure the heat pump component has the capacity to meet the home’s heat demand at or below the region-specific outdoor set-point (e.g. the application balance point must be lower than the region-specific outdoor thermostat set-point), and must be sized to function as the primary heating system of the home, serving the main living area (e.g. family room, living room, or open-concept kitchen-livingroom).
- A program-approved heat load calculation is required to properly size the system. Rule of thumb equipment sizing will not be accepted.
- It must be installed in accordance with the Heat Pump Best Practices Installation Guide for Existing Homes and the High-Efficiency Furnace Installation Guide for Existing Houses.
- The connected thermostat must be installed by a licensed contractor at the same time as the new eligible dual fuel system.
- Warranty replacements and insurance claims are not eligible.

To ensure the equipment you choose are eligible for the rebate, check the heat pump rebate eligible product list, and ask your contractor or consult your retailer before buying.

How to apply
- Purchase an eligible air source heat pump and high-efficiency gas furnace6 and have them installed by a Technical Safety BC licensed contractor who is a member in good standing of the Home Performance Contractor Network.
- Complete the application form in full and submit it within six months of the invoice date along with the following information:
- your FortisBC gas account number
- your email
- a scanned copy of your paid invoice (see a sample invoice)
- copy of the heat load calculation and the commissioning sheet (provided by your contractor)
- photos of the two-pipe direct vent system (upon request)

3A primary space heating system
is a furnace, boiler, combination system, dual fuel system or an air source heat pump. Natural gas fireplaces are considered secondary space heating systems. Primary space heating and water heater rebates are offered in conjunction with BC Hydro and
CleanBC Better Homes rebates. Only one space heating rebate per home is allowed.
