Liquefied natural gas
Liquefied natural gas (LNG) is made from the same natural gas we use every day in our homes. When natural gas is cooled to -162 °C it liquefies and becomes much more condensed—roughly the equivalent of shrinking a beach ball to the size of a ping pong ball. In liquid form, LNG can be safely and efficiently stored and transported inside a double-walled container similar to a thermos. This allows both for use as a transportation fuel or shipment to countries overseas.
FortisBC LNG
Learn more about LNG and how we reach international markets and their growing demand for energy.
Marine fuelling
Fuelling ships with LNG instead of petroleum-based fuels can help reduce overall greenhouse gas emissions.
LNG projects and facilities
We own and operate two LNG facilities on the Canadian West Coast—the Mt. Hayes facility on Vancouver Island and the Tilbury LNG facility in Delta.
Low-carbon transportation
Learn about reducing costs and overall emissions by using LNG or compressed natural gas as fuel for transportation in fleet, heavy-duty and commercial vehicles.
