B.C. Utilities Commission approval of FortisBC’s new Fruitvale substation

Sep 4, 2024

KELOWNA, B.C.—September 4, 2024: Statement from Doug Slater, vice-president, Indigenous relations and regulatory affairs:

FortisBC is committed to providing our customers with energy that is safe, reliable and affordable.

This approval by the British Columbia Utilities Commission of a new substation for Fruitvale and nearby communities will allow FortisBC to make an investment of more than $18 million in the region’s electricity system, so that our customers can continue to have the energy they need, when they need it. It will also help support economic and community growth, now and in the future.

As the project moves forward, we will continue working with local residents, municipalities, Indigenous communities and businesses to keep them informed.

We expect to begin preliminary work on the substation late in 2024 and complete construction by the end of 2026.
