Natural gas water heater rebates
Please note rebates for gas water heaters are no longer available. If you've installed a water heater in 2023, here are the final deadlines for rebate applications:
- All invoices must be dated on or before December 31, 2023.
- You have up to 12 months from the invoice date to submit your rebate application (December 31, 2024, at the latest).
If you've installed a gas water heater in 2023, these are the eligibility requirements and rebate details:
Eligibility
- You must be a FortisBC gas customer under any rate class except Rate 1.
- You must be a property owner or long-term leaseholder of an existing commercial building or a builder/developer or property owner of a new commercial construction project.
- Water heaters must be used for service hot water (such as domestic hot water, sanitation or process hot water).
- You must submit your rebate application and supporting documentation within 12 months of your invoice date (invoice must be dated no later than December 31, 2023).

Rebate details
Rebates are available on eligible high-efficiency gas storage water heaters, hot water supply boilers and tankless water heaters for commercial applications.
Rebate amounts are determined by the size and efficiency of the water heater.

How to apply
- Ensure the water heater you purchased is an eligible model.
- Ensure a gas or mechanical contractor, licensed with Technical Safety BC, installed your water heater(s).
- Complete your commercial water heater rebate application online. Your rebate application must include a paid invoice showing the purchase date, product type (no later than December 31, 2023), quantity, make, model number, and total cost (before taxes).
New construction projects may alternatively provide proof of payment in the form of a final progress draw invoice for the new building AND engineer-approved shop drawings that indicate the job name and site address as proof of make and model of the eligible water heater(s).

Thermal Energy Service Providers (TESP) administration fees2
If you are a customer of a TESP, your rebate application is subject to an $825 administration fee for evaluation of the rebate application. Any applicable fees will be deducted from the rebate amount. If the fees are equal to or more than the rebate amount you would otherwise receive, the net rebate will be $0.
