FortisBC receives approval for electricity rate increase

Dec 18, 2015

KELOWNA, BC – FortisBC has received regulatory approval for a 2.96 per cent increase for electricity rates to take effect January 1, 2016.

“We recognize the importance of electricity to daily lives and we are dedicated to meeting customers’ expectations for safe, reliable service at the lowest reasonable rate,” said Roger Dall’Antonia, executive vice president customer service and regulatory affairs. “Keeping electricity rates among the lowest in North America is important to us, which is why we make prudent investments in the system and purchase the necessary capacity so our customers have power when they need it most now and into the future.”

FortisBC is meeting the challenge of balancing ongoing infrastructure improvements with the impact on rates by focusing on those projects that provide the system reliability and integrity our customers require. These include continual investment to maintain and upgrade the region’s electrical infrastructure and additional capacity purchases to meet customer growth and demand. FortisBC’s power supply agreements ensure that power will be available to our customers when they need it most.

We recognize the unique energy needs of British Columbians and know that decisions made today will have an impact for decades to come. Customers are invited to watch a five-part video series about what it takes to deliver their electricity, located on our website at fortisbc.com/yourpower

The rate increase works out to approximately $3.81 per month for the average residential electricity customer.
