FortisBC responds to City of Vancouver’s ‘Zero Emissions Building Plan'
Jul 12, 2016
SURREY, BC – In a letter to Vancouver City Council, FortisBC CEO Michael Mulcahy responded to the City of Vancouver’s proposed “Zero Emissions Building Plan”, presented to council on July 12, 2016.
The policy report under consideration is impractical. It has the potential to increase costs for energy users in the city and stifle innovation over the long term. If the suggested policies are implemented, the City would force all 108,000 natural gas customers in Vancouver to transition to other energy sources by 2050.
FortisBC is urging the City of Vancouver to engage the broader community on the impacts of this plan, before moving forward.
