FortisBC entering into a purchase agreement with Stargas Utilities

SURREY, B.C.  ̶  December 16, 2020: FortisBC has entered into an agreement to purchase the operating assets of Stargas Utilities, a natural gas utility that serves approximately 360 customers within the Silver Star Mountain Resort. This agreement is subject to approval by FortisBC’s regulator, the British Columbia Utilities Commission.

Through this potential acquisition, current customers of Stargas Utilities will formally join FortisBC’s existing network of approximately 1.2 million customers. As new customers of FortisBC, these customers will have the opportunity to participate in all FortisBC programs and service offerings including the organization’s incentive programs, high efficiency appliance rebates and the Renewable Natural Gas program.

In early 2021, FortisBC will schedule opportunities to connect with current Stargas Utilities customers to discuss the impacts of this acquisition and answer any questions. Also in 2021, FortisBC will file a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity with the British Columbia Utilities Commission requesting approval of the agreement. FortisBC and Stargas Utilities hope to transition operations by April 1, 2021.
