Wilden and FortisBC lead the way to energy-conscious living

KELOWNA, BC — Wilden’s newest neighbourhood, Lost Creek Point, is not only a beautiful place to live but the 36 semi-detached and two detached homes are designed and built to an energy efficiency standard that is far ahead of the requirements for new buildings in British Columbia. Exceptional air-tightness and other highly energy efficient solutions will result in significant cost savings for the homeowners. 

Lost Creek Point homes will also have substantially less greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions than the average home - an extremely important feature to those who are conscious about climate change. Wilden is the first home developer that will be offering new homeowners 100 per cent Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) from FortisBC to heat their home for one year. RNG will reduce carbon emissions for the home to near zero. Homeowners will also receive a credit on the BC carbon tax on their bill.

The developer of Wilden, Blenk Developments, is offering to pay the RNG premium, an estimated $20 per month, for the first 12 months following the purchase of a home in Lost Creek Point. Once the year is up, homeowners can opt to stay with the carbon-neutral gas, choose a lower percentage of RNG or use conventional natural gas.

 “FortisBC’s involvement includes working closely with the developer to find solutions that help achieve their sustainability goals specifically the use of RNG, a carbon neutral gas produced from organic waste,” says Jason Wolfe, director of energy solutions, FortisBC. “RNG is a locally-made sustainable energy source that is interchangeable with natural gas. It’s injected into our distribution system, reducing the amount of conventional natural gas needed and the amount of carbon within our gas stream.”
