We regularly maintain our infrastructure to ensure the safe and reliable delivery of energy to our customers. This includes upgrading electricity and natural gas lines – which may require crews to work along roads – as well as managing vegetation near our facilities and rights of way.

Salmo

Bellmond Road Gas Line Crossing upgrades

Project details: To maintain reliability and meet the growing needs of our gas customers in Salmo, we’ll be upgrading a gas line crossing on Bellmond Road.

The upgrades will help increase capacity for continued reliable service for all customers while meeting the needs of the growing population in the area.Public impacts are expected to be minimal. Flaggers will be located within proximity of the work zones to direct traffic.

Delta

Tilbury LNG facility

Project details:  We are doing work in preparation for our next phase of expansion to the Tilbury LNG facility. There will be remediation work and improving of the former Weyerhaeuser industrial site adjacent to our facility along with periodic work programs associated with environmental, archaeological, and surveying scopes on and adjacent to our site throughout 2024.

Start and end dates: Remediation work began in winter 2023 and is expected to be complete in 2024.

Osoyoos

Osoyoos Highway 3 bridge distribution pipeline upgrade

Project details: To ensure that we can safely and reliably continue to meet the energy needs of our customers in Osoyoos, we’ll be completing maintenance work on the distribution gas pipeline located on the Highway 3 bridge across Osoyoos Lake.

While we expect minimal disruptions to the public, drivers in the area may experience some delays along Highway 3. Construction signage and flaggers will be located within proximity of the work zones to direct traffic. One passageway under the bridge will remain open to boat traffic during the maintenance activity. Watercraft operators should expect marker buoys and signage at or near the bridge.

Kelowna

K.L.O. Road gas and electric upgrades

Project details: To ensure that we can safely and reliably continue to meet the needs of our customers in Kelowna, FortisBC crews are upgrading gas and electricity infrastructure along K.L.O. Road near Mission Creek.

This work is part of the early works for the City of Kelowna’s K.L.O. Road bridge replacement project at Mission Creek which is set to commence in 2025.

While we expect minimal disruptions to the public, drivers in the area may experience some delays along K.L.O. Road. Construction signage and flaggers will be located within proximity of the work zones to direct traffic.

Kelowna

Packers Road and O’Reilly Road electricity system upgrades

Project details: To ensure our electricity system continues to operate safely and reliably, we’ll be installing new underground distribution lines and transformers in the Hall Road subdivision in Kelowna.

This will replace the existing underground distribution system which has reached its end of life. The work will help prevent power outages, and allow us to meet the energy needs of customers now and well into the future.

We ask the public to use caution around the construction site and equipment during and after work hours. Nearby residents may experience some construction noise and increased traffic in the area. Traffic guards and flaggers will be on site to direct traffic through the area as smoothly as possible.

Parksville

Gas line upgrades

Project details: To improve reliability and meet the growing energy needs of our customers in Parksville and the Nanoose Bay area, we will be upgrading a gas line along a 2,000-metre section of the northbound shoulder and curb lane of Island Highway East from Huntley Road to Orange Bridge.

The upgrades will help to increase capacity of the local gas system for continued reliable service to customers while meeting the needs of the growing population in the region.

While we expect minimal disruptions to the public, drivers in the area may experience some delays, and we ask that they carefully follow the instructions of traffic control and construction signage.

We appreciate the public’s patience as our crews work to complete the upgrades safely and as quickly as possible.
